Socializing a new Rooster

Mrs.K, will a young rooster eventually take over an older flock? my 9 month old Wyandotte is very skittish around the ladies. he tends to avoid them. I'm worried because he's not maturing very fast. his comb is small and he isn't crowing yet.

Well he should. If you have him in a flock where they are all older than him, it can intimidate him. That is ok, just leave him be, those girls will raise him up to suit them. I find that a flock master starts to emerge about 1 year of age. Younger roosters will mate, but shirk on other duties until about a year old in my experience.

He also may not be developing more manly traits due to the time of year it is, but spring is coming and the sap will be rising in both the trees and roosters.

As Ridgerunner often say, one cannot say for sure for every animal, but I would expect in another three months, he will be king of the coop.
