Surviving Minnesota!

I did the straw bale 'thing' one year. Wasn't impressed. Then I have seen some wonderful Straw Bales and they look so good. I was reconsidering trying it again in a different area with more sun. They can look okay IF the posts are at each end to hold it together. Its fun to see them in yards when they are working out well. I threw all the composting bales into the regular garden. Tomorrow I want to release the chickens on my garden and let them have at it. It is a raised bed - 10 x 20 -
in my front yard (because I get six hours of sunlight there. Getting anxious. And the seed talk is mesmerizing - love ready it.

This ought to feed the chickens for a couple days

My Senile elderly Mother tried the Straw bale last year or the year before. It was a complete flop and looked ugly..

I am going to try Potatoes in a box this year. See if I really can harvest potatoes from a living plant and how many I can get off one plant. I will probably make 3 boxes. That should be enough potatoes for us.

Bogtown, I don't mind the noise from the gun club. It is not that loud here, and I keep hoping they will miss a clay target and hit a hawk by mistake.

Ralphie, Jerry will have you up to speed in sexing at hatch in no time. I really don't want to deal with chicks until the snow is gone, which could possibly be July 1st as you well know. I am in the Minnesota Artic zone with all that Lake Superior ice and the wind off the lake.

It is forecast to be in the 40s here tomorrow, but I must attend a meeting in the booming Metropilis of Swan River.

I will be hatching turkeys until July so I can throw in some eggs anytime you want them. Or I can hatch some of your own eggs if you want.

Ralphie, the meeting is in the back room at the Truck Stop, so I will likely get there early and have breakfast. You can't beat breakfast at the Truck Stop?

Sorry to hear about the back. Perhaps you should heed those warnings that Judy is sharing with you?

Klop, that looks like a nice load of corn there, can you deliver?

I'm out of ovations. Again. My day's mission is complete it seems.

Nice Load of Corn Kloppers. It's pretty gleaming in the sun in the Banana Belt down there.

Speaking of Gleaming in the sun:

I looked off my deck to see a sparkly Rooster pacing in front of the Free Range Nest Box. I think one of the Wyandottes has decided that this is a better nest box than the ones provided in the coop and worth the 100 yard trek through 6 inches of snow. I cannot think of a more dedicated baby daddy. Who says chivalry is dead? The Big Tootsie takes his escort job seriously it is plain to see.

I actually stop at the truck stop there and eat most times on my way to Togo. I like the food there. I was just being funny, because as far as I know it is the only place to eat in Swan River. That bar next to the truck stop seems to be closed all the time. Not that it is very inviting from the outside anyways.

Kloppers you should have taken the Allis anyways, so people would think your a real farmer!

I cleaned the creamette cage with my broken back. I knew Judy would not be happy if it was not cleaned. The creamette cage was a minor area of dispute last night as it was. I had to hang/wrap aluminum foil on the back of the cage so it would catch the innocent scratching and poop throwing of the creamettes. She said it was on here wall. First, I do not understand how it is her wall, I build it. Second, what's it hurting? I just do not understand her all the time.

Here is a box of creamettes I have not showed one of these in a while....
