Hi, I just signed up over here. We have a farm just south of Waxahachie. We have about 50-60 chickens, 15 ducks, 4 geese, 7 quail, 2 adult Rambouillet sheep and 4week old twin lambs, 3 dogs, 2 cats, 2 cockatiels and 1 fish. I also have an adorable 5 year old son. My husband is hoping to make a go of a CSA or pickyourown at our farm.

Oh, and today is the first birthday of several of our birds.

A CSA is Community Supported Agriculture. It can be done a few ways, through subscriptions to buy produce throughout the year, or where people help work a portion of the garden. Right now we're having difficulty because as soon as he plants, the chickens get in there and get the seeds and sprouts. He planted 90 apple trees of 10 varieties in February and hopes to have apples available at various times of the year. The geese are chewing on the trees, so he's not real happy right now. For some reason, he thinks they should be smart enough not to get to it. My response, if you don't want them out there, limit access to the trees, but he hasn't come to that conclusion yet. We have a lot of expensive fencing, but it wasn't installed right, so we're having trouble keeping things out and in.

Hey Blue,

I used to work in Angleton at the museum, that's where I found Jaws, or Jausenclaus.

Hey there. I am in Dayton. 30 minutes NE of Houston. In Liberty County. I am just getting started but I think I only have cockerels. OH well. I can always give some away and buy a few adults and next year get some chicks.

Hi,

I just joined. We live about 45 miles sw of Fort Worth.

We have had a hen for 4 or 5 months. I built a chicken tractor for it, but it spends most of its time wandering around our property. Yesterday, I got a couple of chicks, so I've got to get more organized.
