So as I’m sure so many have experienced, when ordering chicks that are sold as “assorted” anything, everyday is a mystery for some weeks in the beginning. Well I have this chick seemingly waking up now with a bad hair day…. Would I be wrong in assuming this to be a legbar that was thrown in the mix or do you think the feathers are just coming in funny as they start growing on its head??6 week old puller btw! Thanks!!

I think that is probably a crest starting to grow, rather than feathers just being weird.

It could be a Legbar, but it could also be an Olive Egger or an Easter Egger, as some of those are from mixes that include Cream Legbar.

What is even more crazy is hybrid chickens. I don’t know everything, but I do know that crossing a black feathery legged bird to a Rhode Island Red will get you a black feathery legged bird, except when you get a black bird with bright brown lacing/ cuckoo pattern. I don’t think I have a picture of that one, but look at these guys! The rooster was a Rhode Island Red, and I’m not sure what the hens were, but some of the possibilities are Light Brahma and Plymouth Barred Rock. (These are some pictures I took of 2 of my six little chicks for the Easter photo contest)
