I am seriously contemplating getting chickens again. I wonder if chicken feed is sky high too?

Wow!

From a few posts I've seen around here, feed has gone up in price too but I don't know how much. Might be worth it to do some price checking DM (and let us know what you find out).

I got curious so checked the closest TSC to us (prices vary for different locations). A couple examples:
Manna Pro starter/grower feed 5lb is over $7
Dumor 16% layer feed 50lb is about $20
Nature Wise 16% layer feed 50lb is $23
Pine shavings 8cubic feet for bedding is almost $7

Those are some examples of what prices are around here...don't know if your's are a lot different or if these are brands you normally used.

Yes. It has gone up. I'm paying anywhere from $30 to $37 for a 50lb bag. I buy 4 a month. Scratch costs me $30 for a 40lb bag but I don't give them too much of that.

Chickens eat about 1.5 lbs of feed per week each. At 50 lbs of layer feed for roughly $25, this is approximately $0.38 per week for however many eggs your chicken lays, even in winter when they don’t lay. Regardless, it still calculates to only a dollar a dozen for feed.

Thanks for doing the math IM (never my strong suit )!

Unfortunately, my roosters don't even give me the benefit of eggs. They just beautify the yard.
I'm like their sugar mama. 🤣

Holy cow. I was getting Chewy but that was about as costly. I am back to buying from a local feed store, roughly $27 for 50lbs and use pigeon feed in place of scratch.

Holy smokes! Maybe I won’t get chickens.
We were getting eggs from a co-worker. He wouldn’t take any money. I so appreciated his eggs! (He is very sick right now and last I heard was in an Iowa hospital to have surgery…no doctors in his network available around here.)
