I have been wanting Black Australorps from the get-go. Our first round of chicks consisted of 2 Rhode Island Reds and 2 Plymouth Rock Barred...sadly, we lost my favorite red to a coyote. This year we ordered 2 Black Australorps from Ideal Poultry and I couldn't be more excited! But...they are about 9 weeks old now and the older they get, the more convinced I am that the hatchery sent us the wrong breed. They are not solid black, but rather black and white checkered (mostly black) like Dominiques or Plymouth Rocks. Anyone have any experience with this? I keep hoping they will change but I think that is just my inner optimist shining through.
