O.K. my three Toulouse are too heavy to fly and I always joke that if they try really hard in a good head wind they can get a couple of feet off the ground for 8-10 feet or so. Well, I am wrong. My gander can, in a really good north wind like we just had, lift off and go over his fence out into the pasture. Luckily I was outside checking things while the norther blew thru and saw him doing it. The girls just stood there watching in awe at his skill and then went into a panic because there was a fence between him and them. I managed to keep him from getting hung up in the fence while trying to get back to his girls and have put them up in their coop until the wind lets up some.

So, lesson learned, they really can fly quite high and get loose if they have the right elements at hand. Strong head wind and out stretched wings were all this took.
