Unusual Fowl Pox - Necropsy Results

Thank you for posting the necropsy results. Avian leukosis is a tumor causing disease of chickens, and unlike Mareks, does not cause the paralysis seen. It does cause a severe immune deficiency to many common poultry diseases. Mycoplasma synoviae is a mild respiratory disease that causes inflammation and infection of the joints and lameness. Both diseases can be passes to offspring thru the egg. Here is some reading about leukosis and another on MS:

Wow, just saw this! That is amazing, when you think about it, how much she had wrong with her but she kept on fighting and you would never have guessed she had all those problems! We've had what I suspect was one or two cases of AL over the years, and also one highly suspected case of MS, which we were able to control but never went fully away. I have given up on doing Necropsies here though, for one thing they are so expensive but also the Ag department here is so seemingly antagonistic to backyard flock owners anymore, it is scary to go there. At least that's been my experience from the last time I went, and that was a few years ago. and that's where you go for necropsies. They were never that way when we first had chickens, and I have had a couple done many years ago. They were interesting and informative. Thank goodness for the immune systems in many of the birds in our flocks, eh?? Thanks for sharing and good luck with the rest of your flock!
