Waterer alternatives for baby chicks

I love these things but i swear they dont have a brain we put in a small plate of water so they could drink, one falls in and gets his whole body wet, so we put in their waterer and gues what, same thing, so we went to tractor supply today and i saw a waterer with a much more smaller and narrow opening so sure the babies wont fall in, right? The baby almost drowns. i cant leave them with water for one second so is there any alternatives? This the one i just bought that the baby almost drowned in (had to put a dog toy over where the lid goes cuz the bottle was too tall for the heater, and if i left it uncovered well, you know)

Put rocks in the waterer It won’t keep them out, but keeps the level of water low enough where they won’t drown and yet can drink safely.

I put marbles in the open water. They stood on them sometimes so the water got dirty but the chicks didn't get wet. They got everything dirty pretty fast anyway.
