I actually think eagles scavenge first, then if they need to, they hunt and kill.

Yes - I have come to the conclusion that they are just a glorified buzzard. We often see them eating roadkill here. I think your Alaskan bald eagles are more brazen than ours, though.

Something about seeing a majestic eagle scavenging thru the trash is messing with my patriotic sensibilities.

The first “majestic eagle” I saw around here was eating a dead deer along side the road. Yeah... so majestic.

I get deer, but the trash is really messing with my illusion. I guess its just what your particular area is over run with. I love kangaroos, but I hear the Aussie hate them. Everyone who comes to SoCal just looooves the palm trees. I despise the nasty, rodent filled weeds.

As far as eagles go Most will take advantage of an opportunity... Survival and all that.

Some are far less discriminate than others. though...
