Hello, I have just begun keeping Japanese Quail and at the moment I keep four in a rabbit type hutch, but want to keep allot more around 50, are they OK to be kept in a large wired run with a soft netted top such as what you use to cover garden ponds with to stop them flying high and hitting the mesh ? would like idias please and pictures if possible to assist me with my new project. Thanks to all who help me.

Hello :)

You would have to keep in mind that vermin and predators would love to get in - I've heard of Hawks flying right through chicken wire, I imagine they would get through bird netting easier :O not to mention raccoons... And weasels can get in holes 1inch or more, same with rats.

Also, you can't trust quail to take cover at night or during bad weather so you would have to have a roof plus some siding for the wind/rain splashing onto them.

Maybe a greenhouse setup would be best and you keep 25 in each or something? I'm not sure. You're growing them out to eat them?
