Whats the weirdest thing your chickens have eaten or tried to eat??

Weird things my chickens have eaten, LOL.

Construction material/man made: nuts, washers, screws, plastic tags from the end pieces of wood. Plastic plant tags/markers, rubber bands and broken glass...anything shiney.

Toys: Legos and K'nex (kind of like legos)

Food: Raw uncured olives (bitter yuck) and Jalapenos (ate them like candy)
What happened to your chickens who ate construction stuff. Like screws

It has recently come to my attention that my flock would very much like to eat the Robin who is nesting under my deck. Every time that Mama comes off her nest, the entire herd of chickens go stampeding across the lawn after her. She has lost 2 broods of babies at the fledgling stage. I blamed their loss on the crows, as I saw the crows grab one newly fledged baby. But, now... I'm not so sure. Seeing how my chickens love to chase that Robin and her mate any time they are near ground level, I think they may have been involved in the murder of at least one baby Robin.

I'm more surprised with what my chickens WON'T eat.....spinach, strawberries, cherries, oatmeal.... but by golly, they'll decimate a piece of styrafoam....

My girls think anything you eat outside is actually theirs. They once pecked a chicken nugget right out of my daughters hand. She was so horrified at the cannibalism that she couldn’t even speak for a minute :lau

they also love choux pastry. Eclairs, custard puffs, you name it. Little pigs.

Thanks for the warning, I will keep my cream puffs hidden in the fridge.:p

Crisis averted this morning! My flock gets 3 slices of cheap white bread every 1-2 days as a treat because it keeps my dad happy (he likes to throw it to them off of the deck. Chicken TV on demand!) Well, I slept in with a headache this morning, so I didn’t get out to the pen until10am, so I brought them some bread to say I’m sorry for being late. Keep in mind, this is NOTHING NEW, they have had 3 slices of bread a day ever since we moved in early December, without incident. Today, my red Marans hen Layla grabbed up the crust after the others had eaten out the white part and scarfed it down lengthwise like spaghetti. No sooner had I shouted at her,“ Layla, you’re gonna choke!” than she snatched ANOTHER crust and did the same thing!! She did indeed choke and I brought her in for a Jiffy-quick “lube and oil”. She seems to be recovering. Thank God I was up til 1am reading 41 pages of chicken eating disasters, or I wouldn’t have been watching her. My precious Layla is one of my favorites, pretty, cuddly and kind, and true to her name a wonderful layer. I would have been heartsick to lose her, especially over something as stupid as a crust of bread!:th
