When does A male turn green

I have a male mallard, he will be two in August. His head has never turned fully green. He molts like he should when he should be his head doesn't fully go green, is that something that comes in time with age?

Usually they turn green at about 13 to 14 weeks old, so he probably just has a slight mutation in his feather coloring from normal Mallards, but, you never know! He could turn green at any time, just don't expect it.
