When to worm?

My chicken's are 6 months old and I have been wondering when is the appropriate/correct time to worm them. I have tried looking up answers but I'm getting mixed answers, so I thought I'd get all of your advice! Also, can you use goat/horse wormers? How long is the process? How long can we not eat their eggs? And you do this every year, correct? I'm sorry for all the questions, but this is my first flock and I don't want my girls getting sick! If I left out anything regarding worming, please add what you think!

I only worm via medication if I see worms in their stool. I can't remember the last time I had to medicate for them really. I regularly offer worm prevention/treatment food items as a part of their diet (pumpkins, squash, zucchini, etc. +nasturtium, and occasionally cayenne pepper and garlic).
