Update: I got my first egg from the leghorn 3 days ago. She has laid an egg every day since. The weird thing is, she was not the first of my "chicks" to start laying. My French black copper maran started laying a day earlier than the white leghorn. They are the same age.
i am doing 4h this year and i am doing egg production
i picked to do white leg horns
anyways my fair is usualy at the end of july or at the begining of august
and my order of leghorns will be comeing in either at the end of febuary or march
do my leghorns have enough time to start laying there eggs (prolificaly) alot
???????????????
please respond as soon as posible its very important
Your white leg horns if you get them next week will be 18 weeks old in the middle of June, you might want to reconsider your project for 4H. They may start laying at 18 weeks old but as you see in this thread some were older and much older. Good Luck
My Leghorns are 19 weeks and thinking about laying but so far, no while eggs have I seen. I did notice that today they were checking out the nest boxes. So we'll see. We have 7 Black Star sex links and 1 Americana that have been laying since June 6th when they turned 20 weeks.
