Winter Is Coming! Ducks require heat lamp?

I have a young mallard/ male that can't fly yet he was hit by a car so I took him home so he wouldn't die. He is doing well, still can't fly. He flaps his wings alot. I just wonder if it is safe to release him in a lake nearby or should I take care of him till spring. It is Oct 26th and we are in Newport Washington.

Possibly needs you till Spring?..Once he can Fly he will be okay to release.

Not a good idea to release him if he can’t fly that’s their way of staying out of danger of predators and migrating. Your awesome for taking him in and caring for him hopefully by spring he’ll be 100% ready.
