Winter night time routine

I just give dried whole corn as an afternoon treat on winter days for heat over night I haven't ever used corn meal.  Dried male worms is another way to offer extra protein over winter.  I mix whole corn-dried meal worms and 3/4 cup of dog kibble together and offer as an afternoon treat,
they all love it.
I have always hung whole cabbages out for my flock they have the best time eating on it I also buy those 8 packs of romaine at Sams and give them whole they love those too.

Old post I know but I was reading through and wondering how you hang the cabbages and romaine?

I have a piece of plastic fencing that has 2X2 square holes in it I tie wrapped both ends to make a pocket then I put the cabbage or Romaine down inside. It takes them a while but that is the purpose to give them something to do. They can get hold of the veggies through the holes and work on shredding it apart. I have also cut the head of cabbage into. You could probably pound something no edible[very long nail] through the head and hang with a strong piece of rope or twine. We just have to make sure what we use can't be eaten if it isn't suppose to be eaten. lol

I know what you mean about things that aren't edible! It's amazing what they try and eat! Thanks for the info. I wasn't sure if sucks would be able to use that type of "feeder" the way the chickens do because of their bills. But it's good to know they can!

Thanks for the cabbage/lettuce instructions.
Do you know of any other edible item(s) that ducks can "play" with/eat to alleviate pen boredom (I have a couple days a week when they are in pen for 6-8 hr)...they have lots of room, I just want them active.
I was going to put a mirror in the pen also (especially before winter).
