I've been keeping peafowl 5 or 6 years i guess it is now. They free range all over the community and neighbors don't mind. I only have 9 birds and the homesites here are 3 to 6 acres so, it's not so crowded. Most years, just before freezing weather i trap them all into my barn which has an attached pen with a top on it and they always spend the winter there until green grass comes back out.

I'm in zone 7 and I'm thinking about maybe leaving the birds out this winter. Much of the cold days they stay out of the barn anyway. Last year was unusually cold with single digit temps, but teens are more normal for a yearly low.

I've raised 4 young birds this year. I still have big plenty of room inside, i just think they might do just as well out all winter? Your thoughts?

This last year, temperatures have ranged from -30C in the winter to +30C this summer. The peacock have been ok throughout. Even after a heavy snow fall, they leave the barn to roost in the sun.
