Possibly shrink wrapped but it pipped wrong end and now it’s been like 27 hours and it can’t get out it’s rolling around, chirping, and pecking the same spot over and over and over again. For about 4 hours it’s been doing this. Do I wait longer or assist? The membrane is white and looks crinkly and stiff. The membrane is not on the shell, it’s on the chick. Does that mean it’s shrink wrapped? I hear it takes 48 hours for wrong end pippers but I’m not sure. It is NOT making chewing motions and is DEFINITELY ready to hatch.

Wrong end usually take double the time as they miss the air cell stage
Could you post pictures ?

Did he do this hole on his own
If so he might be ready
I know with chicken eggs it’s harder ti see in
But my wrong end babies I will candle till I don’t see veins
You can also wet that membrane area to look
Lots of times they do hatch themselves on wrong ends but stating in the same spot is usually a sign they are stuck and can’t zip

Yes I haven’t helped it at all. I went to use the restroom and went to check on it and it’s halfway zipped! Hopefully it can finish by itself!

That’s great
Now that’s it’s zipping it should finish but if it doesn’t you can help as they don’t normally zip until they are ready
Fingers are crossed

Oh no! I hope it's not too late now, keep it from kicking out by setting it shell side down in a cup small enough to keep it upright. There are a couple assisted hatch articles on here.. here, scroll down in this one, tit shows how to place the chick in the cup: https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/guide-to-assisted-hatching-for-all-poultry.72886/
Thanks it absorbed most of the yolk now and the teensy tiny bit that was left fell off. I also just had 2 more hatch! It’s so cool to watch every time.
