This chicken coop project started in my head about 6 months ago. I have wanted to raise a flock of chickens ever since I was about 12. My aunt has raised chickens her entire life and I have very fond memories of visitng her farm in Canada over the summer. I did a lot of searching over the internet to gain information and coop design ideas. Everyone has really made some fantastic coops! I took some ideas from the designs that I really liked and put them on paper. My husband then found a storage building plan that came complete with a supply list. We used an 8 X 12 plan and designed the coop portion to be 8 X 8 with a 4 foot porch. The side walls are a full 8 feet tall and the center of the ceiling is 12 feet tall. I wanted a cottage type look so it would look cute on my property. I think my chicks will enjoy their new home and I hope you enjoy the pictures below.
We decided to place the coop under a big oak tree to provide the chickens with some much needed shade during the really hot Florida summer.

Walls are up and we are starting to sheath the outside.

Roof started and a window in. I got 3 windows from a used building supply store for $25.00 each!

Shingles are up! The guys put up the shingles they could reach from the ladders and I climbed on the roof to finish up and complete the peak.
All trimmed up, still have to paint and add one more window to the front of the house. The front door I got at Home Depot, it was a special order that someone brough back or returned. I got it for $75.00. That is about half of what a similar solid front door would have cost. I wanted a door that had a full glass panel in it but when I found this I was sold on the cheap price.

Here are the perches that will be going into the chicken coop once the pale yellow paint dries. The inside of the coop has been painted a pale sky blue.
The chicken pen area will be completed this weekend. Just a few more things to work on. I ordered some chicken nipples to use for their watering system and also going with and automatic door. I will post more pictures as the progress moves forward.
