We did not have any drawn up plans, we just knew what we wanted and built it. The dimentions of our coop are 12' x12' over all, including the front porch. Our inside dimentions are 8' x 12'. We have one walk in door for us to enter and one walk in door for the chickens to enter. We have three swing open windows. We can close up all windows and doors at night to keep them safe from all preditors. All of our treated wall boards are approx. 18" deep into the ground so no critters can dig in. The inside height is 10' tall to give plenty of head room and this also gives you an open feeling inside so you can move about freely without bumping your head. The porch is 4' x 12' and is built off the ground so the chickens can be in the shade on a hot day.

All of our lumber is pressure treated pine. Our 4 x 4 post are all set in concrete 2' in the ground. Our pearlings and rafters are 2 x 4's and 2 x 6's. Our flooring and wall boards are 5/4 treated deck boards.

Our metal roofing is 36" coverage 29 gage galvanized tin.

We built them an entrance ramp for easy access to go in the coop.

This is the walkway ramp to the nesting boxes and perches.

Nesting boxes and perch.

These are additional pictures of the inside of the coop. We built a walkway behind the perch so the chickens can access the nesting boxes with ease. The nesting boxes are 16" x 16" and 4' above the floor. We wired in 4 light fixtures on two seperate switches and one duplex 120v recpt. We also have a porch light and an outdoor light for the yard and we have a water faucet in the yard for convience.

Our fence is 6' tall with 2' of poultry netting at the bottom. We have a bottom, middle and top electric wire to keep any thing from digging under or climbing over. The only thing that could possibly harm our chickens would be a hawk or an owl, but we have plenty of tree cover in the coop area and have not had any problems so far. We have approximatly 1600 sq. ft. of fenced in yard for them to run in.

We have 12 chickens in our flock that consist of 1 golden lace wyndotte rooster, 3 golden lace wyndotte hens, 1 pearl white leghorn hen, 3 road island red hens, and 4 buff orphington hens.

We have thourghly enjoyed building our coop and yard. This was one of our retirement projects and have learned a lot.
