I would have been happy with anything for my chickens but hubby is persnickety and wanted the coop to match the house. We saw a design from Tuff Shed but they wanted a boat load of money for it so he designed his own and we're pretty happy with it. The finished coop is 4x8 feet. It is four feet tall at the sidewalls and about 5 feet at the peak and two feet off the ground.

The walls were framed in the garage and then nailed in place on the plywood platform. The 4x4 posts were set into pier blocks that had been leveled.

Installing the front panel.

The roof joists were made in the garage with a jig to ensure uniformity.

The joists were attached with joist brackets

and the plywood roof was screwed on. We added roofing felt even though many people said it wasn't essential.

The roofing shingles were then added and trimmed.

We added vents at both ends and trim boards to finish it off. And here is the final product.

The run

Changed the nest box to external and clad it in copper flashing.

The nest box door opens from the front rather than from the top.
