The Taj Mahal
It got it's name from my brother in law's comment when he first saw it. It is a 8 ft. by 8 ft. fully insulated Chicken coop on skids. The size I decided on because it had minimal waste of materials and provided at least 4 square ft. per chicken. To save money, I re-purposed anything that I could. Door, window, 4 x 4 for skids, 2x4's and metal roof panels.
It has windows on all four sides for ventilation. The windows prop open with a stick and works well to keep the rain out. Windows are built out of 4 - 2" x 2" with a saw groove down the length. Fit the glass into the groove then glued and screwed all 4 corners together. I then caulked along the outside edge of the glass for waterproofing. Simple and cheap!
It has electric to it for light and a plug for the electric water heater. The inside is all painted and I installed linoleum on the floor and up the walls so that I could hose it out without getting all the wood wet, kind of like a big bathtub.
It is built like a house (16" on center, walls and roof). The outside run is built out of landscaping timbers and of course...chicken wire. It's dimensions are 8 ft. X 16 ft. As you can see, I still need to complete the soffit, facia, trim and landscaping.

removing the lower row of buckets because the chickens
