I had a very small coop that was built for me, but after calculating the expense, I decided to give it a try on my own. Where the original two nest boxes were is the 'breezeway' to the new addition. I wanted functional doors, so I decided on sliding doors...they are great for access and cleaning! In the rear I have 6 nest boxes that can be accessed easily. I have the addition currently divided off into to parts to allow the old birds from my first flock acclimate to the new 7 week old chicks. The original birds have access to my entire backyard garden area where they are policing for grubs and insects. The new birds have an area that are 3 large dog runs attached to the smaller structure.
