| Additional Information | ARTICLE III. LIVESTOCK* Sec. 6-50. Purpose. The purpose of this article is to address health-related concerns generated as a result of the overdensity on land within the city of livestock and other animals which are deemed to be a public nuisance, thereby endangering the health, safety and welfare of the general citizenry. (Code 1975, § 22-10; Ord. No. 530, § 1, 6-15-1993) Sec. 6-51. Definitions. The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this article, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning: Fowl means, but is not limited to, ducks, geese, chickens and other feathered animals. Livestock means large animals including, but not limited to, horses, cattle, buffalos, pigs, sheep and goats. Small animals means, but is not limited to, rabbits and other similar-sized furry animals. (Code 1975, § 22-11; Ord. No. 530, § 1, 6-15-1993) Sec. 6-52. Limitation. (a) The owner or occupant of a parcel of property who shall possess, raise or harbor livestock, fowl or other small animals must do so in conformance with the provisions of this article. (b) Any such person or individual shall own at least two acres or more of land. (c) Upon two acres of land, a person may harbor or raise: (1) One livestock animal; (2) 50 fowl animals; or (3) 50 small animals. (d) For each additional acre of land, a person may add one livestock animal or 50 fowl or small animals. (Code 1975, § 22-12; Ord. No. 530, § 1, 6-15-1993) Sec. 6-53. Manure management. (a) The storage of all animal and livestock manure shall be in conformance with the following standards: (1) The manure of livestock, animals and fowl shall be removed from their indoor enclosure every 48 hours. (2) The manure of livestock, animals and fowl shall not be stored outside for more than 30 days. (3) The outside storage of livestock, animals and fowl manure shall: a. Be no closer than 200 feet of any residential dwelling; b. Not be allowed any runoff therefrom onto any adjoining neighbor\\\'s property, ditch, drain, stream, lake or tributary; or c. Be within a covered manure tank, or covered by a fibrous mat, or flexible plastic material or by another suitable means recognized by either the United States or the state department of agriculture. (b) The application of manure to land shall be in conformance with the following standards: (1) No manure shall be spread upon land which would cause the land to exceed acceptable manure nutrient levels as promulgated by Michigan State University Cooperative Extension Service (MSU-CES) bulletins E-550A and E-550B, as amended; (2) Manure shall not be applied to any land so as to result in ponding, runoff onto adjacent property, drainage ditches or surface water; and (3) Manure shall not be applied to soil that is either frozen or snow-covered.
