I like your pics and write up. The coop is cute as a button. Since this was built about 5 years ago I'm sure you've figured out the mistakes. It's a learning experience isn't it? Has been for me. But for anyone reading this here's what IMHO needs to change. The coop is only big enough for 2 birds (4sqft/bird). The run isn't big enough for 1 (10sqft/bird) unless you are free ranging. Water shouldn't be inside especially in a tiny coop. Moisture can cause problems with health which leads to my next point. Ventilation should not be below. Interior should be draft free, starting with nests at the lowest points, roosts higher than nests to prevent them sleeping in the nests, and ventilation at the top, positioned higher than the birds heads when they are roosting so there us no direct draft on them. You're right, heat rises, carrying moisture up with it. Chicken poop has a lot of of moisture. If the warm moist air has nowhere to go it will condense making the chickens damp. This can lead to respiratory problems, also frostbite if weather is cold. I'd love to see any updates so I can give more stars. This coop was built with love and good intentions.
