I just now happend to look over at my Button Quail brooder..and i see one little one pecking kinda roughly at another one..(which i know they do..), but the one being pecked at wasnt moving away from the pecker(can i say that?..
..),..so, i looked closer, and OMG!..the one baby had a sock string (i had a sock in there for them..they liked to snuggle into it..) tied around his little tongue!..and the other one was trying to eat his tongue!..
...i grabbed him (and the sock..) out quickly, and was trying to look at his tongue w/out hurting him...and thankfully the string came off by itself when i gave a little tug..
..but, i noticed his tongue had a pretty deep groove cut into it....what do i do now?...is there even anything i can do?..will it fall off?...can they live with half a tongue?...it was about halfway down the tongue......so, word of warning..i guess socks arent safe in brooders....BTW..i had the sock turned inside out...maybe not so smart??..
..., Wendy
