Really cool Nifty !!

Once again, you are up against people who think:

"Ortiz says skeptics in Longmont worry that the hens will be noisy, smelly and dirty, attract rodents and predators, and pose health risks from disease."

Too bad. I know, with a lot of education on this people will finally come to believe that a chicken is no more of a problem, most likely less so, than a dog or a cat.

I knew NOTHING about chickens (except what my grand ma ma showed me years ago) until I got a small flock of them. I had no idea they were such an interesting and facinating creature.

I remember the first time we hatched out 9 eggs from a wild red jungle fowl hen that laid a clutch in my pig barn that we converted to a mini horse barn. I was simply dumb founded. I think I stayed up all night and watched the little boogers zip out.

I have a nice wild roo from this hatch and I can see him running around as I type.

Great article -- and in a national newspaper, no less! We may be up to 22,000 members sooner than we think!

Most of the people who think chickens are dirty, smelly, etc., or think one should just "go to a local farm" to get fresh eggs have either had a bad experience with chickens (namely, a bad chicken owner) or just haven't spent any time with chickens at all. Also, some people are just stubborn; there is just no changing their minds.

It still blows my mind when people complain about the noise, mess and smell. Uhhhh....I can smell my NEIGHBOR'S DOGS!! I can HEAR my neighbor's dogs and by god, the yards of the dog owners look horrible!

It is sad that it's laced with negativity.

I did a mag article in Just Labs mag in 2002 about me and my Psychiatric Service Dog that I trained and it too contained a good amount of negative things....

But I guess they're goal is to portray both sides, right?

Nonetheless, it's a great article Nifty! Congrats!

Good interview Nifty! and ha ha what would happen if chickens ran amuck, kind of like the movie 8 million years ago about killer tomatoes, or maybe they could make a show about chickens gone bad!
