My little silkie the only one out of 8 hatched this morning on day 25 and he looks like he may be having a hard time walking? Are his legs deformed or is it merely him being late and still stretching out?

He just doesn't look right to me

, please tell me he looks ok?! His name is Coconut and he is 4 hours old, all of my other chicks were standing and moving about at 4 hours...

I put him on a stuffy to help him feel less lonely, poor guy he is moving around, but it's more like a belly flop?!

I had a cochin do that a little while ago. I left it alone for a while and it was fine. Poor thing had been in the egg too long and his head was even tucked under like he was still in the egg! I hope yours does the same and is running around once it has time to stretch!

He most likely has curled feet, hes going to have to wear boots, you just take a peice a small cardboard and flatten its feet on it and tape his foot down on it

That's it?! So should I try that now, and for how long should he wear his lil boots?

Yes you can do it now. Usualy just 2-3 days, and if its not fixed by then just put them on again until his feet are corrected. I have had many types of chicks like this, its not a gene its just a birth defect usualy due to low humidty.

And also whoever you got these eggs from are not pure, silkie are suppose to be all black. His toes are pink.

Is he still wet or are his feathers stiff. I had one hatch late we had to help it out. We put it back in the incubator but it didnt fluff out. My computer crashed the day before the hatch so I couldn't get on here to find out what to do. I called a friend and she suggested I rinse him off in warm water to get the gunk off. I did and dried him off and put him back in the incubator He fluffed right out All except his poor little head I was afraid to put water on his head It took a few days for him to look like the others but he is fine now.

You could wait awhile though. He is only 4 hours old. It may take him a while to get his feet under him good. I would give it time. He still looks mighty "new" in that pic.

I would let him rest before messing with his feet. I know you need to do it soon, but he looks sooo tired. I am afaraid if you mess with him too much he may not make it. I have made this mistake before. But that is just mho! Good luck! He is a cutie!
