Looks to me like the newspaper is too slippery. I use paper towels for the first few days maybe a week and then I put carefresh bedding in the brooder.
this is why I don't recocomend newspaper it can easily cause splay leg with them fighting to stay up right, plus it collects poo on their tootsies. A quick fix for now if you dont have other bedding is to shread the newspaper into about 2 inch thick in their aquarium that should reallyhelp.
I have a thread going on in the quail section. I had a group of 51 chicks hatch, I am down to 9.
Mine are on paper towels and I have raised 3 smaller hatches with no problem.
Whatever this is it is devastating.
I have sent some of the dead ones out to the state lab but have no idea how long it takes to get results back.
So, it is not a simple problem of heat or cold. It is not a footing problem.
It affects chicks with in hours of birth.
For mine once they start showing problems they will die, none recover.
The video d1 has shows how they act when it first hits them. They finally end up on their sides unable to get upright and often chirp until they die.
d1 thanks so much for reading my thread letting me know and getting this video up. I am sure you felt like I did and there was something we did wrong......obviously it is something we did not have control over.
mate i dont know what is wrong with your chicks but that is definately not normal. Understandable that most of them have died... sorry to see that happen.
I can't view your video however from the picture looks like you have straw in cage. This could be the source of the disease also dirty eggs or a bad egg in your incubator. I only use papper towels for bedding. I do believe it's a disease since it's effected all the quail.
