There was a post a few months ago about converting a Lil' Tykes playhouse into a coop. (Here's the post: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=168126&p=1 ). Since we have the same playhouse and our kids rarely use it anymore, I decided to give it a try.

Worked like a charm. Screened in the windows, put a latch on the door, and voila! There's a cabinet under the playhouse "sink" that I cut the back out of, which leads to the run. I put latches on the cabinet doors, and we lock it down at night to keep out the preds. Here's the final product:

Total cost: About 100 bucks, with chicken wire to spare. Our 3 new chicks are lovin' it!

LOL We have the exact same house. My daughter is still using it at present but hmmm....now I know what I can do with it when she isn't.

Honestly, I didn't steal the posters. They were being recycled at the Habitat Restore, which was practically giving them away. They're much sturdier than you might think.

That is a fabulous coop!!!

I love recycled coops. With lots of folks talking about keeping chickens to save money, we need more coops like yours in the coop pages. Lots of people have play houses like yours or can find them for $20 to $40 used at yard sales. I hope you submit it in the coop contest to get in the coop Design Pages of BYC!
