Nite Guard light

Somebody sent me this link to a product they have been using to keep Raccoons out of their chicken coop and fish pond. The Raccoons have eaten all their fish in the pond for years.
They said it is deterring them so far and its been a couple of months.

Anybody else tried it?

Use the search option and search for night guard in the predator and pest section.

There is a thread on it at least once a month.

Most of the time it has very mixed reviews.
 
It may deter some but I don't believe I would count on it when a chicken dinner is beckoning.

It says, "Guaranteed to work". Does that mean they will replace all the chickens you lose if it doesn't?????

My husband and I were just wondering about the niteguard light the other night. I would love to hear from someone that actually has it. I have had no predators yet....but I believe in being prepared.
 
I've been using Niteguard for a month. No predators yet however, since they're solar powered, they require several hours of daylight to recharge. Mine are located in a shady area and I have to take them out in the sun every couple of days to recharge.
My main predators are neighbors dogs and racoons. I use a six foot high cypress fence plus netting over the top of the run plus a double strand of electric fencing at 6" and 18" off the ground on the fence and a nite guard every 10 feet of the perimeter. Although they're a little pricey.....there isn't anything else on the market to deter night time predators that I know of. I'm glad I have them.
 
Works for me...coons have not disturbed the koi pond and stay away from the front porch area of the house even with cat food in a dish in the open and on the porch.
Possums on the other hand are stupid and cannot see much so it doesn't stop them. The dog does though, it's her favorite sport to chase em off. It is surprising how fast a possum can move when it's motivated by a dog.
We've never had a problem with coons around the coop, in four years not a one has dug under, gone over, even bothered the elevated coop and the run at all. Hens are locked up each night.

I ordered 4 of them 2 months ago. I have not lost one bird since I put them up. I had a terrible coon and possum problem, they were taking 2 or 3 young pullets every night and I was catching predators in the live traps just about every night, mostly young possoms. I still set my live traps every other night or so and have not caught anything. So In my opinion it must be the night guard light that is keeping them away. There is not much to them, when I recieved them and opened up the package I thought, "man I paid $130. bucks for this"! But with over 500 birds, $130. bucks is nothing if they keep the predators away and so far I believe they are.
 
We lost quite a few of our bantams especially Cochins to either a raccoon or fox or both. Not having built a proper coop yet we hung some high (about 5 ' off the ground) roosts from the metal framework of our screen gazebo and the babies took to roosting there and for about a week I slept out there as well to ward off the raccoon which was just as well as the bold thing kept coming around and was not easy to chase away. After we got the set of 4 Nite Guard lites (and yes, they are expensive) I was able to go to bed in the house and haven't lost any chickens in the last 3 months plus the deer are leaving my flowers alone too.

Mine seem to recharge just fine even when not in direct sunlight. So far I think it was the best investment for our chickens that we've made so far.
 
I have wondered how effective these things are. The price seems a bit high for just one blinking light. I'm thinking about getting a few strings of outdoor blinking Christmas lights with small red bulb and stringing them around the coop area. It seems like I read a post a long time ago about someone using this, or something like it, with success.
 
I bought 3 Nite Guard units because I figger the "fourth side" is very close to my house and bedroom window.

I know there are raccoons and possums because I've SEEN 'em in my yard, before, and suffered predation to the goldfish/koi pond. I've only had the Nite Guard units for a month, but there hasn't been ANY predation in the pond! Uhh, nor to the chickens. My dogs still sniff around every morning, where they've scented critters in the past, but so far, so good.
