My Belle has been on her eggs faithfully for 2 weeks. I came home today to find her outside the whole pen area freaking to get back in. I felt her eggs, ice cold. It is 39* here. She was on her eggs at 11:30 when I left, It in now almost 2. I don't know how long she was off her nest. I put her back and she "counted" and checked all of them and settled back in. My question is are her babies going to be ok????? Oh, and the pen was latched. I am wondering to myself how she got out in the first place?

the chicks to be will be ok. I would not give up on them - the cold might delay hatching a day or so. I did have two eggs that a broody chicken left, they were cold and I slid them under my broody duck - one did hatch - so it is possible.

Hmmmmmm, wonder how she did get out and lock the door.

How did she get out is a good question!

Too cold for anyone to voluntarily go outside, then walk by the coop and let her out.

THEN lock the coop shutting mama hen outside?

hope you find the intruder!

Well now I've got two broodies and found one in another box w/ two wooden eggs. I put her back in the right nest and she stayed that way, face first, until we moved her and 9 eggs last night to a private area.
One thing I do know is that hens that got broody should be moved asap or other hens will be laying eggs in the nest every time she gets off to do her business.

So what to do?
If you do not have a private area for her, make one ASAP. Since there is nothing you can do but hope things will turn out fine, don't give up that hope and let her finish what she started.

At this time I have a plastic round kiddie pool set up in the back room of my garage, w/ one hen. I've got to make another area for the other hen. This will be an area w/ no other laying hens or roo to bother her. I intend to put a red heat light aimed but not to close to the nest. Just enough to raise the temp some.

Now you must keep us updated.

I candled two, couldn't see anything except airsacs. Please make averything OK, high powers that be, please.

.....I don't have any advice. This is my first time. But my girl is out in the coop and it can get pretty chilly. I am worried about when they come.

Man-o-man. I'm saying a little prayer for you and your eggies.
