I remember doing this one when I was a kid I had so much fun I taught it to my kids now they will teach it to theirs some of you may have done this but for those of you who have not, this is a good cheap fun Easter egg dye (never done it with brown eggs only white)
*Cheap meaning you don't need a name brand for this project*
You will need.
1. plastic throw away cups 16oz or larger
2. clear cheap viniger
3. cheap veggie oil
4. different colored food colorings
5. plastic spoons (or an egg ring from a store bought dye)
6. news papers or paper towels LOTS of either and/or plastic cheap throw away table cloth (dollar tree kind)
7. old clothes for the kids (if they are small and make messes easy)
8. EGGS and a white crayon (for names or designs)
9. plastic gloves for the egg handler (this dye you must wear off your hands)
10. the egg carton the eggs came from for drying the eggs
Steps in order
1. place viniger into cups about half way up (how many is up to you, you will need extra cups if you choose to do the odd ones at the end)
2. now add the oil about a 1/4 of a cup in each cup.
3. add just a few drops of food coloring to each oil puddle (viniger and oil don't mix thus making an oil puddle)
4. for the extra cups I had told you you will need do steps 1-3 but go crazy add different colors to them like blue with green or yellow with red it is up to you and the children what you come up with.
5. in the very last one put a few drops of all the colors into it and swirl right before you drop the egg into it and let it stay an extra few minutes for a very cool tie dye look..........oh how retro
)
6.let each egg stay in a cup for a about minute or two each time(the longer it stays in the darker it is and yes the egg can be dipped into each cup after drying for a few minutes each time (let the extra oil run off).
7. let the Eggs dry for a few hours viola how cool do those look and better then any store bought brand of dye.
8. If you hold the egg on it's side or top or bottom half way in the cup you can make a multi colored egg that looks cool.
It is never the same egg twice and the kids love it so have fun and enjoy this, it's all natural so it is non toxic and safe if kids (small ones) lick their fingers or the eggs which they tend to do for some reason.
Good luck and have fun with the children and this Egg Dye from yester year (Mister Rogers neighborhood from 30 some odd years ago)
Please post pics I would love to see what kind of creations you came up with.
