Had to take some eggs away from my broody today, as she was setting on a bizillion and couldn't cover them all. Some were in the stages of very early growth. I candled them and then cracked them open as I couldn't tell anything really by candling them. They are just in the very early stages so there isn't anything to really see; but I thought it was pretty neat seeing something like this anyway.

After some time went by, my hen kicked an egg out of the nest. For whatever reason, this one was not going to make it and she must have known that. She's a really good mama!! I Think this chick may have been around the 7 day mark.

This is another one she later booted out. I am sure this one must have been further along than the others, or had already died. I saw movement in several of the eggs when I candled them, but some of them I couldn't tell. Again, how amazing that she knew!! I am guessing this chick must have been around the 14 day mark, but I am not 100% positive.

I gotta say, that's awesome!!! Thanks for sharing!

Just curious, what are you going to do with the eggs?

I opened an egg one of my hens was sitting on, when she walked away and didn't come back. I ate the egg.

I'm still alive, though.

I know, I know! It does sound gross, but there was really nothing in it. All of my chickens seemed like they were going broody at once, and I was desperate for an egg - and I refuse to go buy "store eggs". I swear I won't do it again, but I tell ya, I was desperate!

That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

I just put them, along with the shells, in a ziploc bag and tossed them. I am sure they probably weren't 'Bad' but I didn't want to eat them - if I were desperate for an egg there were a couple that weren't past the just layed stage I could have eaten. Not only that, but I have 4 dozen in the fridge, so desperate didn't enter the equation. LOL

Thanks for the compliments on the photos, I had fun taking them so I could share them with you all here

Hope the updates are of interest and maybe, hopefully, even educational.
