I'm new to chickens and I need your expertise.

I think I may have at least one rooster, but who am I to judge? The chicks are about six weeks old. The flash made the lighting funny, but for the record nobody's comb is currently bright red. There are two Barred Plymouth Rocks (PR1 and PR2), a Speckled Sussex (SS), and two chicks that were sold as "Araucanas" to the lady I picked them up from (A1 and A2).

There's also my showgirl, who I'm praying is a lady!

A1 is a hen as long as that comb doesn't turn red or pink in the next 3 weeks. I suspect P1 is your only roo, but I'd wait a few more weeks...just to be sure.

I disagree, both of those BRs are pullet colored. The males are a LOT whiter barred. I should know, I have 8 of them

A1 is the only "iffy" one to me, but right now none of them is screaming rooster at me.

Thanks for the insights, guys!

Also, do you think they really could be Araucanas? She kind of looks a lot like this bird, who is "supposed" to be an Araucana as well. I read that Arauacanas are very difficult to breed, and that the genes involved are lethal; so, you could have an Araucana with a rump and without tufts, yes/no? I won't be heartbroken. Just curious.

PR1 has pink in the comb and wattles. At that age, girls are not pink. PR1 is a boy.

As for your Araucana...looks like an Easter Egger to me (sold by hatheries as Araucana's and Ameraucana's, but they aren't pure bred). While not rare, EEs are great birds! I have 3, and they are my friendliest birds!!

Your show girl(or boy) is gorgeous. I think I'm in love. What beautiful eyes? I'm coming around to show girls, the dark skin really accentuates the white. Ebony and Ivory. Think it's time I went to bed., I'm getting a silly spell.

Thank you! I agree.

Lovely dark eyes, beautiful blue skin, bright turquoise earrings beneath a white fur coat. Not to mention the flooffy headdress! And the goofy behavior: If everybody else is partying with donated dandelion greens, the showgirl is lost in her own world scritching around the run; If everybody scurries to the other side of the yard, it takes her awhile to notice, and she looks around like a lost blonde, then totters over... And the sweet personality: She'll fall asleep in the crook of my arm. She's a singer, as well, currurling all throughout the run. Yes, showgirls are officially great. If you're tempted to bring one home, then do yourself a favor and don't fight it!

I'm thankful she's not low in the pecking order. I don't know if I could handle her of all chicks getting picked on!

Your "Araucanas" are not Araucanas, neither is that image provided later - A lot of people are confused on this because hatcheries put false claims on their crossbred chickens, calling them Araucanas or Ameraucanas. So of course, sadly when you look up Araucanas you find Easter Eggers.

A1 is a cockerel, he looks like my Easter Egger at a young age but with more black.

A2 is a pullet, looks exactly how my Easter Egger hen looked when young.

Also, there's a difference between tufts of an Araucana and muffs/beard of an Easter Egger.
