My son hatched chicks in science class and was able to bring 2 of them home. The 2 that we got were a hen and a Roo. They were told that they are RIR chicks. They are now out with the other hens for about a month now. Problem is that the Roo just started attacking us. Before we put him in with the other birds he was fine you could hold him and seemed to like us more than what the hen did. Luckly the first time he attacked me I saw him coming becasue I was kneeling down gathering the eggs and he was coming straight for my head. I have knocked him down when he charges at me, have tried to hold him but he bites. Its to the point that even if Im walking on the out side of the run he flies into the fence trying to get at me. What should I do? Thanks for any advice on what to do with him.

There have been many things posted on this forum and I think I've just about tried them all on my roo. I decided that the broom works best.

I myself am having trouble with 3 hard headed roosters. I find that if you can't trust them DON'T if you can pen them up DO SO. If that isn't a choice GET RID OF THEM.

I am losing the battle my choice has been to pen them up. Once egg collection becomes a problem trying to get eggs from the nest box's and being attacked. THEY ARE GONE!

Some say carrying them around works some say wacking them works sometimes nothing works.

So fair with mine carrying and wacking has not worked for me.

Try a hose with water or a spray bottle. I found out today they do not like water. I have a Chantecter that is a mean rooster. He likes to attack when I put food or water in my breeder pen. Today when he rushed in from the run, I was filling the water dish. Re flex took over and he got blasted with water. He went off talking to himself.

Thanks for all the advice. I tried the water today and it works until I put the hose down. I think tomorrow I will put on a jacket and see if I can t hold him down.

One of my two one year old barred rock has decided he thinks he rules the roost. in the last couple days . there will be dumlings sat. for supper.
My standard operating procedure works every time. Rooster get aggressive I eat him, cures aggression every time plus takes him out of the gene pool

It really does taste like chicken...

That mean roo will not stop attacking. If you have kids the safest thing to do is feed them a rooster for sunday dinner.
