I figured I'd document my adventure from the beginning in the hopes that I can gather advice along the way as well as motivate myself to continue.
During this long weekend I took advantage of some of my free time to get started.

Day 1: Sept 4
Scrapped my original plans to build a coop from scratch and just bought a Little Tikes playhouse. The playhouse has a wall on a hinge so it will be somewhat convenient to get in for cleaning.
Pressure washed my fence so that I can paint it before putting the run in front of it.

One section of my fence powerwashed.

Power washed the playhouse and mocked up the height with some jack stands.
Tried spray painting the color to see how it will look. Going for a red barn type of look. Red/burgundy with white trim. I may leave the roof blue or may paint it to be like shingles.

Day 2: Sept 5
Painting my fence and starting the framing on the run (pics to come)

If you can, put it up on a platform with a floor under it. It is soooooooooo much easier trying to reach into it than having to get down on your hands and knees to do it!! I build a floor using a pallets as the framing, covered it with with plywood and vinyl fooring. Then set it on top of a plastic pallet to help prevent moisture coming up thru the floor.

Oh man I am going to go nutty if you build a good coop with that.I had one and finally got someone to buy the thing this past month.I gotta hide this thread or dh will complain when I ask him to buy a shed for the hens!

I had an idea to cut the bottom of the plastic open and then just shove insulation inside of it (between the walls) but I'm not sure how feasible that is.
