I usually just lay all of the eggs on the wire but they end up getting rolled around alot. So, i'm thinking about using egg cartons next time during lockdown, but i want some feedback on how to do that and how well it works. Thanks!

Has worked well for me since I switched to doing it that way about 3 years ago. I just cut the lids off and transfer the eggs from the turner to the cartons.

I don't think there is a right, or wrong way. Some swear by it, some have had troubles with the chick emerging. Myself. I use them UNTIL lockdown, then they go on the wire.

The egg cartons work very well for me and the clean up is very easy. Not a lot of mess. I use this method all the time.

The incubator I am using was my mother's- it is homemade and hadn't been used for 20 years! The trays are wood with 2 metal screens in each tray- it has a pull lever on the front of each tray that slides one screen across the top of the other. There are little dowel rods that separate each row of eggs, so when you pull the lever to turn them, they roll and don't slide all over. It works very well! I have 40 eggs in it due to hatch on the 26th! 23 FBCM, 12 RLBW and 5 Polish.

Thanks everyone for the info! I'll probably be using this method the next time I hatch; which I hope will be soon!!!!

Good luck to the rest of ya'll!

Like Coopa Cabana, I trim the cartons waaaaaay down, with a hole in the bottom as well. And the chicks seem to like them!
