Don't you love when that happens, I had a local lumber yard guy do that for me, but he gave me all the top sheets for free! He said he usually donates them to local non profits. Plus he sold me his personal GQF cabinet bator for only $150!!!

LOL love them smilies.... I love chatting up and getting deals I do it in so many ways.

Heres some aditional sources for supplies if you dont get all you need.

Locate roofing suppliers. Their plywood is probably three quarters the price of chain stores. They too will bundle and deliver often times for free they will have like a fifty mile diameter limit.

If you are in the city or near one check with garage door replacement companies. Often times they will just trash the old garage door. But usually they are made of 1/2 to 5/8 thick plywood panels there may be a ragged corner but 90 percent will be useable. These doors are free if you can get them home. The fellow that gave me mine delivered. I got five one car garage doors. thats enough wood to make a solid wall 40 feet long by eight feet tall. FREE and they already have a coat of paint or two.

Also any company that manufactures with sheet metal like heating and airconditioning recieves their sheet metal on 10 x 4 pallets... Usually those pallets are made of slats laying on top of two or three 4x4s that are ten feet long. Again Free for the asking but please do ask first. Last time i asked I got six of these pallets The wood is not pressure treated so I wouldnt use it for fence posts but anything above ground is fair game. 50 percent of the slats were junk so they went into the woodpile the rest were one inch thick by eight inches wide. All pine but heck its free.

How wonderful! That's smart shopping!

Now you can use all the $ you saved to buy more chickens! then build another coop,. then buy more chickens,.. then expand,.. then buy more chickens.....

Home Depot has a spot in the back of the lumber department where they sell "culled wood". It's the irregulars and cuts that people don't want (mostly partial boards). I'm building a 4'xroughly 7' coop and have spent just under $175 on all materials including a box of 3" drywall screws and all the hardware, paint, & a 100' roll of hardware cloth! Home Depot's culled wood runs from 51 cents to $2.01 a piece, but I generally only take the cheapest cuts of OSB and such!

well I got all my lumber for my coop for $8.53 which the stuff you buy on the shelf would have been over $50...from Home Depot

I also found a supplier to our local menards for hardware cloth... 4ft x 100 ft rolls for $83.50; (Add in a $25 delivery fee..he's almost 3 hrs away)..but if I got the rolls I needed from Menards it would have been $240!!!

So I've knocked off a lot already!

The guy at lowes will get back to me on Wed (not tomorrow as I said originally)..we need 2x4's for the run..so we'll take his too when he calls!

We ordered the EZ Build frame for the building $10 off each frame so we paid $126 w/tax..normally would have been $176..but this is the entire
roof, side and bottom frame of the buiding ALREADY assembled (think time saved!) from menards...

off to habitat for humanity tomorrow to see about windows/doors and plywood siding pieces..THATS what is gonna kills us!! $300 worth..if we bought it
at menards!..we called siding companies and they do the vinyl which hubby doesnt want because it wont save us any money due to having to get corners etc..

sooo..a li'l bit of money saved so far means a happy me!~

BTW-- our coop is going to be 10x10 :)

Here is an update on money spent/saved...

27 pieces of treated lumber $24; saved over $85
$75 for 5 ez-build gables for a 10x10 bldg; saved $58 due to "weathered-ness" on them...
$67 for:
6 pieces of plywood siding (normally $34 ea),
19 pieces of 2x4x(varies)10 & 12's
4 posts
saved over $2XX.oo

So far spent: $166

Found a 4x100 roll of hardware cloth at a supplier for menards (local one only) for $83 and $25 shipping; if I purchased
hardware cloth at menards; would have been over $240 alone..just for the hardware cloth! (This place is 3 hrs away almost one
way..so $25 for it to be shipped..is great..I'm happy with paying that just so I dont have to drive!)

still have to purchase roof stuff for the coop & run; but thats only about $80 for the coop if I dont get discounted stuff lol..
not sure how much the run roof will be..thought about using hardware cloth; but DH wants a solid roof on at least part of it..

so far I've saved a TON! The original receipt at menards said over $1400, then we took stuff off and it was still right under
$900..I said ITS FOR CHICKENS LOLOL...so we have been finding all these "culled" pieces etc..and getting them at 75% and 85% off!

BTW--it was hilarious; rented a Home Depot truck for $45 today, got all my stuff in it; instead of paying to have it delivered..home depot
delivery alone would have been $99 lol...but we tookt he home depot truck..went to Lowes..got their cheap stuff, drove to Menards and
got their cheap stuff...THEN as an added bonus; the Lowes guy gave us a hat and THREE lowes shirts...lol..go figure!!
