My absolute favorite split boy coming up...he's from a late may 2010 hatch.
He's got good size. he's proportionate. Not too leggy, IMO. Comb is still a bit off but better than anyone I've got I think.

another split from the same age group....
The comb is not over run with points but it's still weird. Like his tail. But he really could use a bit more heft to him.

Split from june 2010
Comb has a couple too many points and they are so uneven. His size is good. Like his development but he is too "wimpy". Not that I want them aggressive, but he has no confidence.

Lav from same hatch. Also a wimpy boy. But he's got good light coloring that I'm wanting to add to the mix. My original roo was too dark. More like a slate than the powdery lavender of this guy. Camera throws the coloring off a bit!

Non splits.......
The first is from part English lines. He is really nice, big but his comb is crazy! He is from early may 2010. I'd love to show him, but I really don't know about the comb....I think it has like 10 points!!!

This guy is a son of Suede. He's about the same age as the first guy. Again nice size, but he has light eyes and light legs. But he's a great boy. I'm thinking I'll just throw him in my mix pen.

We had a bit of frost bite this year. Nothing too awful. I also have separated the boys out from the girls. They were fighting too much so some of the boys are still healing from the fights.

I like your first Black and your Lavender boy!!! Wimpy boys always turn nice and mate!!! I'd keep those two and let them grow out more say like 18 months! I have had all nasty Lavender roosters, not a nice one in the bunch so far! I don't like nasty!!! I'd also keep all the pullets......

Heft and type before working on combs....my two cents!

Spell check! lol

Pullets stay for sure! and yes, I agree about personality. That is why lav boy is now with the girls and the first black split. He's already starting to come out of his shell. I just want to make sure my girls are being bred while he works it out for himself and the split boy KNOWs what to do! LOL!

My first lav was super sweet and took a while to come out of his shell(no pun intended) too. These guys have such nice personalities compared to the first couple splits and the one blue I had.

And I do like the size of most of these guys. And that is definitely important. Plus combs are much better than last years breedings. I added in much nicer girls last year. They aren't as "leg hornish" as previous generations.

Lastly I'm looking for the guy who has shorter legs. and these guys are much better looking that way as well. Plus so much better fluff!

I have seen a big difference with each generation here! Now to get that perfect Lavender boy that doesn't look at me cross eyed and ready to pounce! I agree with the leg thing. Short, shorter!! I have an english black on some of my girls, so hoping by Fall this generation will have that.

I'll hook you up. My lav boys have been quite the sweeties! Temperament above all else!
