I posted this in my local BYC page and I didnt recieve any responces I was looking for perhaps you can help me out.
So I been doing alot of research on disease and disease preventions and bio security measures as of late. In my research I found an article by DR.Jones it states ""Mycoplasma is present in 75% - 89% of ALL flocks, both commercial and private according to Dr. Scott Jones at the Baron Diagnostic Lab in Wisconsin. If this is true and is the case in common flocks then How does a Flock owner prevent this from happening to them. It says if you take all the preventative measures you can still have this in your flocks. Some people never realize they have it as it takes stress to trigger it. So if studys have proven that 75%-89% of all flocks have this. and it can be transmitted by a bird simply flying by and pooping in the chicken yard. or a mouse scampering in from the pasture to grab a quick easy bite. and Treatment for prevention is limited is there really a substantial way to be that 11% who is clean to me 11% of the world population is by far a long shot.
I am very curious as to input Seeing as I do take some pretty serious precations on my farm to prevent bad health in my flocks to include Bootbaths before entering building I now require Slip on plastic sterile booties to be worn and Placed in the burn pit after use. I Do scheduled health prevention policy rules every 3-4 months. and I bleach all waterers and feeders every other Sunday with a 10% bleach solution. I Cull any birds that even hint to show signs of weakness or lack of proper meat to feed conversions. and have eliminated broiler birds from my farm as there 90% carriers of this situation. I use Roccal - D Plus http://www.revivalanimal.com/store/p/2491-Roccal-D-Plus.aspx which is very expensive. We even load up the 25 gallon sprayer and spray the whole 5 acres every 6 months. So my question is simply if I do all that and its still not enough then what else can I do as a preventative measure.
I do not have this problem that I know of as of yet. I did send some birds in for testing Just to verify my standings I do try to get birds tested quarter annually. Since I had a big scare at the beginning of my poultry farm that ended being nothing at all. I welcome all input on this matter if anyone has any to add.

Yes I have viewed and read that thread. That is a discussion related to resistances. I bird can be resistent to the effects of a disease and still carry it. it could be years before you noticed an our break lets say, you have the most happiest of a flock you keep them happy and they indure no stress. then a few years later something happens on your farm that stresses your birds horribly then it can surface. So assuming your flock is without MG or MS because there resistant is definatly not a practical solution to me.
The only way I verify is by Culling birds and sending them to the state lab for testing. I am just wondering if there are any other measures I am over looking to maintain a healthy flock.

Juat a thought here for you to consider, sometimes too healthy of a flock leads to an unhealthy flock as exposure to some bacteria and viruses builds immunity. Isolation is not always the best route and you will battle one disease after another. Maybe look into building/breeding resistance in your flock through the immune system of your birds. There are things you can do to enhance you birds immune system.

I understand and I do agree. For example I dont treat young chicks for cocci like most. I do not give them the medication unless I introduce them to fecal soil from the yard first. you cannot treat for something thats not there. I was told by my state vet if you feed young chicks medicated feed yet there in a 100% clean area. Lets say a brooder box you clean daily and disinfect. then your medicating for nothing. I do know that most of the people claiming to have disease resistance flocks are more then likely not as resistant as they might believe if 75% to 89% of the chicken population has Some form of crd or another in there flocks. Yet there birds dont show symptoms are they still not carriers. Lets be honest with our selves. How many large scale chicken farmers out here, really are immune to disease. If your commercial plants and hatcherys have it. Show birds have it. Co Ops have it. then wouldnt the only way to build resistance be to introduce them to this as you said. I understand the cull method. I do my fair share of culling. I even cull birds that are low on the pecking order. IfI got a rooster thats more dominant over the other rooster I cull the weaker one. Only the strong survive on my farm.
I had a friend in new mexico an avide rattlesnake hunter he use to inject his self with rattle snake venom to buildin immunity to the poison incase he got bitten. wouldnt this be the same method. I have so many other factors being on this farm I have to worry about Like cattle who can carry MG. Several Birds migrate to the farm becauseof the wheat fields. Sometimes thousands of geese stop by for a bite of nice green wheat. then the chickens wander into the same wheat field as the geese did.so resistance to me is introducing that into your flock then building an immunity to it. to me Bio security seems way better then resistance.
