OK, we have a flock of 14 hens. They are 11 months old. We have never wormed them or treated them for mites or lice. I don't think they have any of these things but they have suddenly stopped laying and can't identify a cause so I thought this would be a good time to do it since I understand you can't eat the eggs for two weeks.

They may be molting. There are a lot of feathers in the coop and many of the tops of their heads are bare where the rooster holds on. They have never had bare spots there so I thought maybe their feathers are loose??

Anyway, what should I use and how can I administer it and for how long?? I would like to treat for both mites and worms. Is there something that does both? Ivermectin??

In the future how often should this be done???

Thanks!

I recommend Valbazen (albendazole.) It kills every known worm that chickens can get including tapeworms and liver flukes. It is a liquid cattle/sheep wormer given orally. Dosage is 1/2cc for standard size chickens and 1/4cc for smaller chickens. I recommend sevin dust for lice/mites. Redust in 10 days to kill nits that have hatched since the first dusting. Dust their coop, roost and nests as well and repeat dusting in 10 days. ETA; there is a 14 day withdrawal period for valbazen.
