OK, I get how they remove the cap. Nice video, thanks for posting the link! But what happens next? Does the little soft inside shrivel up or get pecked off? How does it "heal"? Seems so "easy" and like a great fix!

Id like to know that too. My roo got a spur caught and ripped it off. My boyfriend called me convinced he was going to bleed to death till I got home. LOL It bled for about 2 days and I had to keep it bandaged. Now he has one very long spur Im not sure how to remove or trim.

My roos spurs have healed after using this method. They are not as long and have a rounded tip. Unfortunately, when I removed the spur he got one caught on a brick and it bled a bit more than I would of liked. but after the healing process they are much shorter and rounded--It looks like the "cap" has formed again, but not nearly as sharp as before.

so what about the flesh inside after you pull the cap off? Im concerned it would get caught or picked at or does it shrivel up or something?

Does it really bleed bad?
I have to do something with my RIR roosters spurs tomorrow, but I can't decide if I should do it this way, or cut it. Right now he can't even walk.

I used this video to take off my rooster's spurs year before last, to protect the chickensitter when we went on vacation. I think it hurt me more than him, but it did bleed quite a bit--stopped pretty quickly though, all I had to do was dab at it with paper towels. I've never noticed if it looks rounder now than before--have to take a look tomorrow. I did feel really guilty afterwards though, since I've never seen him try to use his spurs. I can tell you that it took a lot of pulling, and is much harder than the guy in the video makes it look.

Thanks for this. It makes me feel better about it. I tried it today because the video did make it look easy, but I didn't want to make my rooster hurt, so I chickened out

I think I may try it again later.
