i was just thinking of making something alittle bigger to feed and water my chicks out of when they get bigger well lets see some pics of your holemade feeders and waters

I know there are lots of good ideas here for feeders and waterers because I've used a lot of them. Unfortunately, I don't have pictures available right now.
The easiest waterer is a 5 gallon bucket with sealable lid. Local bakeries use them for icing, etc. and either give them away or maybe charge $1. Drill 1/2" hole thru the side about 1-2" from the bottom, and seal the lid. I use a funnel to fill it thru the hole or plug the hole with a little stick or something and fill the bucket from the top then put the lid back on. Place the bucket into a larger diameter pan ( I use an old galvanized pan about 4" deep) and there ya go.
I put the one inside the coop on a couple of bricks to keep it out of the litter but the one in the yard is just on the ground.

I've seen this idea made with an automatic filler valve but haven't done that yet so I have to shlep hoses to the coop but thats ok. I only have to refill them once or twice a week,

i was wondering also if you could use a peice of pvc pipe and fix it for waters and feeders just an idea i have alot of pipe so maybe i could do something with it

This is my favorite design. I was lucky enough to find buckets with screw lids from work. I drilled four small holes in the bottom for the feed to fall through, and I drilled a hole in the bottom for a bolt.

I drilled another hole in the middle of a chip/ dip tray (Walmart, 2/$1), and I bolted it to the bottom of the bucket. If I didn't already have a bolt long enough, I would have made two smaller holes and ran clothesline wire through them.

The handle broke off of this one, but I could replace it with a clothes hanger if I wanted to. I could also put it "up on blocks" for the birds. I found that putting it directly on the floor just lets them scratch the food around and waste it.

Waterers are harder to make, but I have designed a couple in the past. I've put a 2liter soda bottle in a larger bowl, with a small hole in the side of the bottle near the bottom.

Here are my designs:

Left is the auto feeder (lots of these with pics on BYC).
Right is the waterer although I should add that I am considering getting some poultry watering cups and building the waterer with those instead of the ball valves and cutouts.

OOO OOO Do you have pics of the waterer? Just to give me an idea what it looks like finished. Does it work by vaccum?
