Hi everyone. I'm new to the whole chicken scene and I know that it's difficult to tell the gender of chickens early on. My chicks are over a month now and I was taking a look at them all today. I noticed on my Black star/bantam that he/she was developing wattles. The others (2 leghorns and 1 red star/bantam) don't appear to have wattles. And my black star is really hard to handle. I've heard roosters are like that. So I was just hoping some of you could give me some guesses on the gender. Thank you!

It does look like a little roo with that comb but if it really is a black star then it has to be a girl. Male black stars are barred like barred rocks. Either you have a very boyish girl or you don't have a black star.

well, the person I got the chick off of said it was black star mixed with bantam. -guess i should have mentioned that before sorry- so would that make any difference?

Yes, that makes a big difference. The sex linked traits will not carry to the next generation so that is indeed an adorable little roo.
