The front page of today's Oregonian is an article about legislation changes that have passed on commercial operations. Colony cages that require 116.3 square inches per hen with perches, nest boxes and scratch pad by 2026. I know that's so far into the future but there is pending legislation according to the article to make Oregon chickens cage free by 2019.
 
Current law is 67 inches of space for battery cages. It's not perfect but the law change is a step in the right direction. The biggest thing I take from this is that rather than some tiny mention buried deep in the paper its front page and under the banner. If the newer proposal passes it would be law before the other one and they would be cage free.
