My chicken definitely has sour crop. I am able to make her vomit some of the nasty stuff up, but not all of it comes out. There is still quite a bit left in her crop. I put some probiotic capsules in her water and took her food away. She is separated from the others for now. I also saw that she passed some poo...it was almost the consistency of dough. She is getting around alright and isn't listless or overly lethargic. She looks deformed her crop is so large. The strange thing is, the crop bulges to her right side, so the mass is lopsided. Any advice on how to clear this up? I wish when I try to make her vomit, more would come out! Poor chicky then chicken!

I also have a hen with sour crop. My son picked her up this afternoon and said woah, mom she really stinks. So, I had read alot of posts on this subject before, hopeing that it wouldn't happen to me, now it has. I however can't get anything to come up. I have given her olive oil and massaged it numerous times, so far to no avail. So I too am in need of some suggestions please.

This might just be a coincedince but I had some with sour crop and gave them some extra chicken grip hoping it would help it move along and it seemed to work
as long as I have enough grit around I have never had it happen again

I just gave mine a dose of olive oil and nothing. I just can't get anything to come up. I feel so bad for her

Please, any advice...and I always have fresh grit available for them...

Hummmm, I have a new bag of grit out in the livingroom that I was planning on getting out to the birds tomorro. I'll try to give her some... Can't hurt!
Thanks,
Mollie

I had a hen who I treated with apple cider vinegar. I brought her in and gave her nothing but water with acv added to it for 3 days, then gave her chicken food for a few more days before I let her back out to free range. That's been a few months and she's still doing good.

Anatomically, their crop should really only bulge to the right side (chicken's right side) of the breast bone. When it is near empty (or barely full, however you care to think of it), it may seem as if it is centered. But once it gets past half full, it should noticeably protrude to the right. Textbook-wise anyhow - there may very well be a congenitally different bird or two out there (like some people are born with their heart on the "wrong" side of their chest), but in general, it's on the right only.

I'm trying to get my hen Snowy to eat some grit. She didn't want it at first but she will drink the olive oil on her own so I put some olive oil on some of the grit to give it some flavor, working a little, I think..
