So, I got a call from someone I know and they ask if I want some more chickens. I say sure, how many? They say I dont know, its the nieghbor, he wants rid of some, maybe a dozen? Ok fine. He says the neighbor will drop them off, I can bring the cages back later.
I went to get them and there were THREE DOZEN birds stuffed into two smallish dog cages! Like the kind you'd keep a beagle in! These arent chicks either. They are some young, but mostly adults, no BIG birds, but large banty to standard sizes. I have no idea what kind, probably all mutts. They were so crowded and so unhappy and one of them had it's toe squashed between the crate and the side of the crate pan. There's blood in my car and in the cage. I dont know if that's the only one that got hurt, I dont even know which bird had the toe hurt I couldn't tell who the toe belonged to, just was focused on getting it freed.
I wasnt really planning on this many yet, but I was kind of stuck with it. That's okay, we will make room, but wow. I cant even tell how many roos and hens I have. I think it's about 50/50. I guess I will go sort them tomorrow and check them over. I didnt want to traumatize them any further today.
I haven't told hubby yet and am hoping they keep quiet so he doesnt wander out to the barn. His birthday ducks are in there and I dont want him to see them yet!
I'll post pics later, cant upload them till he heads to bed!
