I just wanted to drop a note how pleased I am with the Cornish Cross chickens I have been raising from Moyer's. They are much more active than I had expected. They love to eat the grass on our pasture/meadow, don't just lay around waiting to be fed, and generally seem to be very happy. I do move the tractor each night and take away the feed until morning which might explain a little. They are six weeks old at this point and should be plenty large to process by next weekend.

Of the 26 birds they sent, we lost 2 in the first few weeks. We have another that seems to be lame at this point but we are keeping it in a separate pen and it is still eating and drinking just fine.

I've been considering a different breed (red bros/FRs) for the fall, but so far I couldn't be happier with Moyer's CX's

I just thought I would update this thread since we processed these chickens. We ended up processing a few at 7 weeks but the majority at 8 weeks. All dressed out at 4.5-5.5 lbs. We are very pleased with this. Their crops had lots of 'greens' in them and their hearts looked very healthy. We BBQ'd one last week and it had a very 'clean' taste and had much less "dark" meat than I expected.

I'm on the fence about the CX or K-22 from Moyer's for the fall batch.

Oh as an aside - I built a 'whizbang' chicken plucker based on Herrick Kimball's plans. It saved a ton of time. It plucks two birds fully in 20 seconds. Worth my time to build it and the money.

Awesome job! I too, like Moyer's Cornish Crosses. We get them almost every year depending on our family needs. They grow out nice and we rarely have losses as well. Great to hear others are finding this great hatchery and their wonderful healthy birds. Oh, and the "mostly" white meat is excellent on these Cornish crosses.
